IGCSE results out, students better their performance

More than 34,000 entries recorded with Cambridge Board for the March series

The results for the Class 10 equivalent International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and Class 11, 12 A level exams, held in March 2017 were announced  on Thursday. Several students from Mumbai and New Delhi passed the exams with an A grade, with many schools recording an overall improvement in results.

“There is a considerable improvement in the results this year with a large number of students bagging ‘A’ level at the exams,” said Rakhi Mukherjee, Principal, Utpal Shanghvi Global School and PPS International Junior college, Juhu. Sixty-seven of the 142 students from the school secured an A.

At the Ryan Global school, Kharghar, four students achieved ICE-Distinction, and nine students achieved ICE-Merit. The topper for Garodia International School, Ghatkopar got 96.14%, with one student scoring 100 out of 100 in Maths.  

This year, the number themgrew by 29 per cent as compared to 2016 with more than 34,000 entries recorded with the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) for the March series. Entries for Cambridge IGCSE saw a 31 per cent increase this year, with more than 26,000 entries. Entries for Cambridge International AS & A Level increased by 21 per cent on March 2016 with more than 7,000 entries.

The Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects continued to see a strong rise in popularity. There was a rise in entries for Cambridge IGCSEs in Physics, Additional Mathematics and Chemistry, and in Physics and Chemistry at Cambridge International AS & A Level. Cambridge IGCSE Global Perspectives and Business Studies saw 16 per cent and 29 per cent growth in entries respectively whereas Cambridge International AS & A Level Business saw a 24 per cent growth since 2016.

Every year, new subjects are made available in the Cambridge March series based on feedback from schools, parents and students. There are over 400 schools that follow the Cambridge curriculum in India.
