Thirty-eight medical colleges across the country may risk losing 286 seats in speciality courses if they fail to submit documents required to raise the intake of MD and MS students, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The medical colleges have been allowed by the Medical Council of India to increase or start MD/MS seats for the academic session of 2018-19. They were to submit various documents in that regard.
In a public notice on Thursday, the ministry has said that it had asked the medical colleges on February 6 to comply with the procedure mandated by the MCI, but none of them responded.
"The receipt necessary documents for issuing Letter of Permission is still awaited from medical colleges. Since Ministry has to adhere the timeline for issuing LoP(s) by 28.02.2018, all the applicant college are directed to furnish necessary bank guarantee(s)/undertaking by tomorrow i.e. 23.02.2018. Ministry will not be responsible if, the documents are received after the given date," said the latest notice.
Failure to submit the documents will put these new seats in danger of disapproval. Among the big names listed in the notice are Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Bihar; Government Medical College, Srinagar; Government Medical College, Chandigarh, and GMERS Medical College, Gotri, Vadodara.
