The Greater Noida Police nabbed a sharpshooter following an encounter in Bisrakh on Saturday evening. The shooter's associate, however, managed to flee from the spot.

The sharpshooter was identified as Aman Tyagi aka Maya Tyagi, 28, and according to the police, he belongs to the Randeep Bhati gang. Earlier, a reward of Rs 15,000 had been announced for any information about him. Bhati is a noted criminal involved in many high-profile murder cases.

The cops had received a tip-off that two gang members would be passing by the Bisrakh village. "The Anti-Extortion Cell (AEC) of the police had received the information. The sleuths also came to know that Tyagi and his accomplices were planning something big," Suniti, Superintendent of Police (Rural), Gautam Budh Nagar, said.

The AEC, along with the Bisrakh Police, immediately formed a team and put up a check-post in the area around 8.30 pm on Saturday.

"The criminals were on a bike. They opened fire at the police personnel on the check-post and tried to flee. The police retaliated and after the exchange of fire for some time, Tyagi was nabbed. The other criminal managed to flee. We could not see or trace him because it was dark. We are, however, conducting raids at various suspected locations to nab him," Suniti said.

Police recovered a country-made and 7 live cartridges from Tyagi's possession.

Meanwhile, SP Suniti has appealed to the citizens of Gautam Budh Nagar to actively come forward and contact her on 9870395003 and the AEC on 9870395038, in case they get any extortion calls or have information about a gangster. She has also assured that the name of the informer will not be disclosed.

According to the police, Tyagi came in contact with Bhati in 2015 in the Basti Prison through another sharp-shooter, Robin Tyagi, who was arrested 15 days ago. Since then, he had been involved in many serious crimes. He is an accused in a double murder case, an attempt to murder case, and in a number of other cases of loot, extortion, kidnapping, and murder.
