Burglars struck at the residence of S Suresh Kumar, personal secretary to Venkaiah Naidu, Minister for Urban Development, in the Capital's high-security embassy area of Pancharipuri, early on Sunday. They fled with important documents, valuables, and apparel. Senior police officers said Kumar and his family were not at home when the incident took place. No arrests had been made till Monday evening.

According to the police, the house, D1/175 at Satya Marg near the Delhi Police's Security Unit, is currently unoccupied as the IAS officer has gone to the US to pursue higher studies, along with his family. Their driver V Kuttan Pillai lives in the servant quarter of the house.

Police said it was Pillai who alerted the neighbours and the police after realising that the house had been burgled. "He told the police that on Sunday morning, he noticed that the entire house had been ransacked. All the almirahs and cupboards were open. He also reported that along with some important documents, valuables such as electronic items, jewellery, apparel, and cash were also missing. He said he immediately called up Kumar and alerted the police," a senior police officer said.

A dog squad and a crime team also arrived at the spot to investigate the matter. "A case has been registered at the Pancharipuri police station. We are looking into the matter and have an important lead in the case. The burglars will soon be arrested. CCTV footage of the nearby areas are being scanned to identify the miscreants," the officer said.
