Five men, including a tour guide, have been identified and booked for allegedly gang-raping an American woman at a five-star hotel at Connaught Place on Saturday.

On Friday night, the woman had contacted the Delhi Police on email asking them to register an FIR against the five men. In the email, the woman said that she had come to India along with a group of other tourists and had planned her tour after consulting a US-based tour agent. The agency contacted its partners in India that had booked the hotel and employed the prime accused as the tour guide.

It was found that the tour guide is a resident of South Delhi and is presently travelling outside the city along with a group of tourists. Sources say that one of the suspects is an employee of the hotel.

According to police, they had initiated an enquiry after the first email, since they had received it from the US-based NGO which had narrated the woman’s ordeal.

The tour guide threatened her with dire consequences if she raised an alarm or informed anyone about the incident. After suffering from depression over the whole episode for a few months, the woman approached her lawyer who advised her to contact the NGO. She had recorded her statement with the NGO that had sent the mail to the Delhi Police.
