Two days after the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) received an intelligence alert that terror groups might target the Delhi Metro ahead of the upcoming Yoga Day celebrations, two men were caught by the alert personnel at the Vaishali Metro Station on Sunday. The accused were trying to sneak in with a loaded pistol. They were overpowered and later jointly interrogated by the police and the intelligence sleuths.

The incident came to light at 10.15 am. The duo, identified as Ashish Kumar, 24, and Rakesh Yadav, 25, residents of Ghaziabad, arrived at the Metro station and were headed for the security check.

"When Ashish put his bag on the X-ray screening machine, the scanner operator noticed something objectionable in his bag. The bag was checked thoroughly and a country-made pistol was recovered from it. It was loaded with one live cartridge. The CISF commandos deployed at the station then immediately overpowered the two, and following a pat-down search, they were brought to the station's control room. The personnel then informed the police and the intelligence agencies," a senior CISF officer said.

The accused could not provide any satisfactory reason for carrying the weapon. "They said it did not belong to them and did not know how it landed in their bag. They were handed over to the Uttar Pradesh (UP) Police for further investigation," the officer said.
