Two killed in Karol Bagh building fire

According to officials, both the first and ground floors were residential and had families living in it

A major fire broke out at a residential-cum commercial building at central Delhi's Karol Bagh on Friday evening. The fire broke out from a store room at first floor that had stacked polishing material, supposedly inflammable in nature. Two bodies were recovered from under the debris in the store.

Four fire tenders were rushed to the spot when they received the call around 6.35 pm, said officials from Delhi Fire Services (DFS). The fire came under control around 7.10 pm, he said.

"We received a call at around 6.35 pm. Our fire tenders reached the spot and recovered two bodies from under the debris. We have launched a search operation to check for any more casualties," said a DFS official.

The building in Karol Bagh's Naiwalan, Gali number-8 caught fire. Fire officials said that the fire started from first floor and spread to the ground and second floors of the building. According to officials, both the first and ground floors were residential and had families living in it.

Karol Bagh is popular for its wholesale market and remains crowded till late hours. Two fire incidents were reported last year as well.
