A group of 20 Tamil Nadu state board students were left exasperated on Saturday when they were denied admission at Delhi University's (DU) Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) because they had "incomplete" documents. The matter, however, was resolved soon and most of them were able to complete the admission process.

Though the students had their original passing certificate, they had only provisional mark sheets as the state board issues original documents at least three months after the announcement of results.

"How can they not inform us about this earlier?" Rued one of the students. Echoing the sentiment, another student said: "Until last year, original mark sheet was not mandatory. No other college is asking for our original marksheet."

Parents accompanying the students were also left perplexed. "This is harassment. We have travelled all the way from Tamil Nadu for the admission of our wards. How can the college authority do that?" a parent asked.
The college authorities, however, denied all allegations of harassment and said they needed permission from the university before accepting the provisional mark sheets.

"We had to seek permission from the Vice-Chancellor's office, and we received it around 4pm. Admission of most of these students was completed by the evening," SRCC Principal RP Rustagi said.

Meanwhile, other colleges in the North Campus witnessed a lukewarm response from aspirants. The colleges announced their first cut-off list on Friday, with the highest being reported from SGTB Khalsa College for BSc, Electronics, (99.6 per cent).
