A 34-year old B-tech graduate, who had previously worked for several companies abroad, has been arrested for floating fake tenders and jobs in the name of the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, by the New Delhi district police. The accused, Amit Kumar Burman, floated a tender seeking a liaison officer in North-East India in the name of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

The accused claims he began floating fake tenders after he himself was duped in a similar fashion a few years ago and incurred heavy losses. He was cheated by a company in the name of a water survey tender.

A complaint from Mridul Chakraborty, a resident of Tripura, was received at the Parliament Street Police Station, about a person who had duped him in the garb of getting him a tender in government and semi government projects. "The complainant alleged that he read an advertisement in a newspaper regarding the requirement of a liaison officer for a project in the Northeast. He later contacted the person and the accused informed that he is Yogesh Kumar and that he works as a section officer with the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation," said BK Singh, DCP, New Delhi.

The duo met later outside Shastri Bhawan, where the accused stated that the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation has opened a tender for data collection and that the ministry needs a consultancy company and a liaison officer in the Northeast.

Burman told the the complainant that he can help him get the tender for the consultancy company if the company is ready to pay Rs 1 lakh per district.

The plaintiff also gave Rs 5.2 lakh and got a fake letter from the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation in return. Later, cops laid a trap and arrested the accused. Burman told police that he completed his B Tech from Dehradun in 2008. He worked with various companies in India and also in Angola, Africa, Lagos, and Nigeria till 2015.
