The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has asked the District Magistrate (North), to submit a detailed report over a reported seizure of more than 300 litres of acid in Azadpur Mandi.

The commission has directed the DM to explain how and from where the acid was procured, the purpose it was being used for, how it reached Azadpur Mandi and whether any action was against the businessmen who were found in possession of the acid.

It also sought to know how many raids and inspections have been carried out in the Mandi over the past two years along with dates of inspections, name and designation of the officer who undertook the inspection, amount of acid confiscated and details of FIR registered, if any.

"It is pertinent to note that even though open sale of acid has been banned by the Supreme Court, it continues to be sold in shops in Delhi and recovery of such large quantities of acid displays the gross failure to implement the directions of the court," the commission wrote in the notice.
