Delhi's borders will soon turn into a fortress with makeshift prisons and a four-tier security plan that will deploy over 30,000 personnel to keep away Jat protesters who have declared to lay siege in the Capital on March 20.

The security ring will comprise paramilitary forces, anti-riot personnel, commandos and local police. Ambulances and cranes for impounding vehicles will also be stationed at border areas for quick action.

As the police have denied permission for the protest, leaves for all police officers have been cancelled, in order to deal with the protest.

The Jat protesters have scheduled a protest at Jantar Mantar on March 20 where they have declared that they will bring Delhi to a standstill. Over 50,000 protesters will reach the Capital with their tents, tractor-trolley and animals. They have also threatened to gherao Parliament to push their demand for reservation in government jobs.

Delhi has 30 border check points that will be manned by around 30,000 security officials. Sources say that Kondli, Singhu, Narela and Badarpur have been identified as volatile areas.

"The Delhi Police is taking all preventive measures in order to ensure that residents of Delhi and the commuters do not get affected by this agitation. Police officers have been asked to firmly handle the agitation. Delhi Police will ensure that peace and tranquility is maintained in the city and violators will be handled strictly as per the law of the land," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), PRO, Madhur Verma.

Not just roads leading to Delhi, but railway stations are under watch too. The police is keeping a track of mass train bookings by people residing in neighbouring states.

A strict vigil will also be maintained at sensitive locations where the police suspect they could gather in large numbers such as Jantar Mantar, Ramlila Maidan, and the University areas.

The Delhi police also suspect that some members of the community who are residing in the Capital may also provide shelter to some protesters from outside the state. They believe that few of them might have already reached the Capital.

The Jat agitation has been continuing for the last 48 days or so with various protests being held in Haryana. Around 25 protests have been held in twenty districts in the state.

SECURITY MEASURES

  • Protesters with lathi/danda or any other lethal weapon would not be allowed to enter Delhi. Sufficient force with anti-riot equipment will be deployed at all border points of Delhi to keep a watch and to take timely action.

  • Protesters with tractor trolley or private buses will not be allowed to enter Delhi and such vehicles will be impounded at the borders, as per the guidelines of the Hon'ble Supreme Court and under the provision of the Motor Vehicle Act.

  • Outside forces including Rapid Action Force and other central paramilitary forces shall also be deployed as a part of the police arrangement.

  • Reserve Forces will also be kept in each district (13 districts) to handle the situation in case of any contingency situation. Local police will ensure that the people living in the Capital are not affected or face any trouble.
