Residents of more than 22 Resident Welfare Association (RWAs) on Sunday gathered at the Rajesh Pilot Park in south-east Delhi to find a lost road, which has been allegedly shown by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in the zonal plan to obtain approval for the construction of a mall in place of a community centre.

The residents alleged that the DDA had shown a fictitious 24-metre road connecting Shaheed Surya Sain Marg to Sudhershan Munjal Road so that traffic would be able to move in and out of the site, where the proposed second largest Mall of Delhi was being planned to be constructed.

To counter the DDA authorities, Vivek Sharma, an advocate and general secretary of Citizen's Alliance (CA), a non-governmental organisation, on April 5 has filed a complaint at the Kalkaji police station to find the "missing street".

Following this, over 150 people gathered on Sunday at the park, thereby kickstarting an initiative known as "Gumshuda Sadak ki Talash" to find the road. An award of Rs 10,000 was also announced by the organisers to anyone who found this "missing" road by the end of the programme on Sunday.

"The DDA authorities have shown a road which does not even exist. So, I have filed a complaint and on Sunday we organised this gathering to take this initiative further. We also awarded a dummy cheque of the said amount to the Vice Chairman of DDA," Sharma said.

However, the DDA did not even mention anything about the road in question in the Delhi High Court where a PIL was filed by the CA to stop the construction of the mall. The HC directed a committee of the Commissioner (Planning) and the Commissioner (Land Disposal) of the DDA to "examine this matter" to take a "final and definitive decision within eight weeks."

According to the complaint, Sharma said that he, along with other members of the area have been searching for the missing road for the last four years but are unable to trace it.
