Rohini post office guard found murdered, 1 held

Police have apprehended a juvenile, nephew of the deceased guard. Robbery is suspected to be the prime motive behind the killing

A 59-year-old post office security guard, who was to retire from his job next month, was found dead with his hands tied inside the post office building in Rohini sector 7, on Saturday morning. Police have apprehended a juvenile, nephew of the deceased guard. Robbery is suspected to be the prime motive behind the killing.

According to senior police officers, a call was received around 7am reporting that a person was lying dead tied down inside the post office in Rohini Sector 7. When a police team arrived on the spot, it was found that the employee of the Post Office, identified as Sushil Kumar Saini, was lying in a pool of blood, with his hands and legs tied and tape on his mouth.

DCP Rohini, Rajneesh Gupta said there was no injury except some blows from a blunt object on the deceased’s head. “Search revealed that about Rs 20,000 and a hard disk of the recording device was found missing from the post office. His body was sent for a post mortem and family members were informed. A case of murder was registered and investigation was taken up,” he said.

CCTV footage from the vicinity were scanned and hundreds of locals were questioned. “The inquiries revealed that in the locality, one minor boy, nephew of the victim (less than 18 years as per school certificate) had visited the post office during the early hours. Following a raid, he was apprehended and from his possession the two hard disks, one mobile, and about Rs 20,000 stolen from the site was recovered. The weapon of offence used during the crime, a broken bat, was also recovered,” Gupta said, adding that involvement of anyone else has not surfaced. However, the investigation is still on.
