A Delhi court on Monday sought a report from the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) regarding the matter in which a man, who had filed a case about irregularities in granting contracts for construction of roads and sewer lines, against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and others, was allegedly threatened.

Special Judge Poonam Chaudhary also directed the ACB to file a status report on the complaints on the next date of hearing — September 1. The directions came after the ACB officials, once again, failed to submit the threat perception report and status report in the case, as directed by the court.

Appearing for the ACB, officer and prosecutor Balbir Singh said the previous reports on the threats were already on record, and according to the Uttar Pradesh (UP) police, there was no threat to the complainant. The court asked the officer to file the status report, mentioning that these reports have been filed in another court.

The court was hearing the complaint of one Rahul Sharma, founder of NGO Roads Anti-Corruption Organisation (RACO), who has alleged irregularities in the Public Works Department (PWD). Sharma has also sought registration of FIR against CM Kejriwal and his brother-in-law Surendra Bansal.

Sharma had alleged that Bansal (now deceased) had operated through several dummy firms to secure contracts with senior PWD officials. The ACB sleuths had registered three separate FIRs regarding these alleged irregularities on May 8. Also, three FIRs have been lodged by the complainant at different police stations.

Earlier, the case was transferred from Metropolitan Magistrate Abhilash Malhotra’s court to Special Judge Poonam Chaudhary’s court by orders of a district judge as cases pertaining to ACB and those registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act are to be taken up by the Special courts.
