A 24-week pregnant woman was killed and her husband injured after a car rammed into them in Noida's sector 18 market on Sunday night. The couple was heading back to their car when a parking attendant lost control of a car that he was trying to park. He first hit two other cars and then mowed down the woman and finally hit a pole. The couple was expecting their first child.

The couple Mansi Singhal, 29, and Prateek Singhal, 32, had come to the mall to watch a movie and after eating at a restaurant in Sector-18 were walking towards their car. Meanwhile, a person in his Honda City car, who was visiting one of the shops, handed over his car keys to a parking attendant due to lack of parking space.

The 18-year-old parking attendant identified as Abhishek sat behind the wheels and while trying to park the car, accidentally pressed the accelerator. The impact was such that he hit two cars ahead, mowed down the pregnant woman and dragged her for few meters before ramming into a pole.

The police were informed immediately who rushed to the spot and took the duo to the hospital. While Mansi was declared dead on arrival, her husband was treated for injuries and later discharged. The doctors at Kailash hospital stated that the woman was 24-week pregnant and due to excessive blood loss could not survive.

The body was handed over to the family members who have taken it to Bareilly for the last rites. "The couple was expecting their first child and we rushed the woman as soon as possible. However, we could not save her and the child. It is a really unfortunate incident," said a police officer.

According to the other parking attendants, Abhishek had come as a replacement for someone and did not know how to drive. "The medical examination of the boy was conducted where he was found to be 18 years of age. He does not have a driving license. We will take strict action against the contractor who had employed him without a background check," said Arun Kumar, SP City, Gautam Budh Nagar.
