The day the special TADA court convicted Abu Salem in the 1993 Mumbai serial blast case, Delhi Police claimed to have arrested a sharp shooter of the underworld don. Police claimed, the man is the one who had shot at film producer Rakesh Roshan and was also assigned to eliminate Chhota Rajan on Salem's directions.

The 27-year-old resident of Old Mustafabad, was arrested from Pushta road in Rani Garden area near Geeta Colony bus stand. One country made pistol of .315 calibre, with two live cartridges, was recovered from his possession, police said. Salem's associate, identified as 35-year-old Jaan Usman Khan alias Reenu, a resident of Sarai Rohilla, was arrested from the Pandav Nagar area after a police team laid a trap for him. He has been accused of attempting to murder his own wife. A loaded pistol was recovered from him when he was arrested, police said.

DCP (East) Omvir Singh said it was during interrogations that Reenu disclosed his alliance with Abu Salem's gang. "He said in 1996 he went to Mumbai where he came in contact with one Waseem, a sharp shooter of the Abu Salem gang, and an accused in the murder of Gulshan Kumar, the owner of T-Series Cassette Co and a film producer.

"Waseem introduced him to Abu Salem, who then introduced him to one Aftab Bhatki, who was running a fake Indian currency notes (FICN) racket from Dubai and Karachi. Usman also joined him in circulating FICN in India through Nepal and Bangladesh route but was arrested in Delhi in an FICN case in 2000," the DCP said.

After his release from jail, Usman moved to Mumbai and started extorting money in Bollywood on the directions of Abu Salem, Singh said, adding that later he was arrested for an extortion bid on film distributor Anil Thadani.

"After his release from the Mumbai jail, he came to Delhi and in 2010, and was again arrested under Arms Act and in the murder case of a businessman in Vikas Puri. He has also disclosed to have fired upon singer Daler Mehndi and film producer Rakesh Roshan on the directions of Abu Salem for extorting protection money. In 2015, he was also contacted by the underworld to murder Chhota Rajan, but the plan could not be materialised. He disclosed that he had also threatened infamous gangster Ravi Pujari," the officer said.

The Special Cell also claimed to have arrested one Shahbaj Ansari, an associate of Junaid Chaudhary, a henchman of underworld don Chota Shakeel. Police said Ansari has previously been arrested in two cases, of which one is a murder.
