In a well-planned drama, robbers impersonating policemen looted a Mumbai-based jeweller. Four unidentified armed robbers looted 10 kg of gold and other jewellery late on Sunday night, the police said.

According to the police, the incident took place around 10:30 pm at an underpass near the Sahibabad railway station area. Rohit Jain, the owner of Union Jewellers & Gems and a native of Mumbai, was returning from Meerut after showing samples of some merchandise to Meerut-based jewellers.

The police said that Jain left Meerut at 8 pm on Sunday along with his friend Krishna and driver Ramashish. As they reached the Sahibabad area, they stopped their car at an eatery near the railway station.

After eating as they set out on the road, the criminals posing as cops intercepted them and asked the driver to stop the car for checking.

The robbers put up a pistol on their heads and took them to a secluded place near Wazirabad road in Sahibabad where they robbed the entire stock of gold and escaped. The jewelry and chains were kept in two separated bags.
However, the police officials denied disclosing the exact quantity of gold that was robbed, but sources say that the gold cost over Rs 3 crore.

The trader along with his accomplices reached nearest the police station. The Ghaziabad police upon receiving the complaint registered an FIR in the matter and launched a probe.

" The FIR has been lodged against unknown persons and we hope to work out the case soon." said Akash Tomar, Superintendent of Police (city), Ghaziabad.
