The man who Savneet Singh was contacting in order to dispose off the Mercedes car which killed a 17-year old boy in Paschim Vihar area, turned out to be a responsible citizen and informed the Crime Branch of Delhi Police. The Crime Branch then laid a trap, and apprehended the accused from the Rajouri Garden area late on Wednesday night.

Police officials revealed that during his interrogation the accused showed no sign of remorse, and stated it was a mere accident.

“Singh, a resident of Meera Bagh finished his BCom through correspondence from Delhi University. His father, Dhanvinder Singh runs a furniture shop “Jeet Furniture” at Jail road for the last 30 years or so. He helps his father in the business as well,” said Praveer Ranjan, Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime.

Savneet alias Aman was arrested around 9 pm from Rajouri Garden area where he had come to meet a person to dispose off the vehicle. The same man informed the police which led to Singh’s apprehension. After being taken into custody, Singh told the police that he along with his cousin Hasmeet Singh were on their way to have chicken rolls at a food joint. On the GH9 block road (where the accident took place) they tried to overtake a tempo, and went to the other side of the road. Police officials said that Hasmeet, who was present with Savneet in the car when the accident took place, was also apprehended.

“The speed of the vehicle was so much that Savneet could not control it and rammed Atul Arora’s scooter,” said DCP, Crime, Madhur Verma. Police officials revealed the boy could have been saved had the accused stopped the car immediately. After the accident, the accused went to a nearby vacant plot and parked their car. When the plot owner questioned them, they had a minor argument with him and left to go to their friend Gurpreet Singh’s house in the area.

“It was Gurpreet who suggested the removal of number plate. We will investigate his involvement during the course of the investigation,” said a senior officer.

“We are apologetic. He told me about the incident and I told them to go and surrender immediately,” said Dhanvinder Singh, father of Savneet. The two apprehended persons were then handed over to the Outer District Police who later arrested them and sections of destruction of evidence have been added.
