In a scathing attack on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday, Delhi Congress Chief Ajay Maken said he will lodge an FIR against the CM for "gross abuse of power, as pointed out by the Shunglu Committee report". Congress has sought Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Anil Baijal's sanction to initiate the prosecution process against Kejriwal.

The Shunglu Committee, which examined 404 Delhi Government files, in its report, had indicted the AAP government, the CM, and his Cabinet colleagues for corruption, nepotism, and abuse of official position.

"We want to lodge an FIR against Kejriwal with the ACB. But to register a complaint under the Prevention of Corruption Act, we need to get approval from the L-G. So, we have sought his sanction," Maken said.

The Shunglu Committee comprised former Comptroller and Auditor General VK Shunglu, former Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami, and former Chief Vigilance Commissioner Pradeep Kumar. The committee examined 404 files pertaining to various decisions taken by the AAP government, and unearthed many serious cases of corruption and irregularities under the Kejriwal government.

The panel flagged many decisions, including allotment of land to AAP for its office, appointment of Health Minister Satyendar Jain's daughter as "mission director" of Delhi State Health Mission, and appointment of a number of purported AAP functionaries as "advisors".

In a letter to the L-G, Maken said: "After perusing the said (committee) report, I requested the Commissioner of Police, Delhi, to register an FIR under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act against Arvind Kejriwal and carry out necessary investigation. Despite the passage of more than three weeks, no action was taken against the accused persons. So, on May 7, I again moved a representation before the ACB, along with a copy to the Joint Commissioner of Police, ACB."

In the wake of the stunning allegations made by ousted Water Minister Kapil Mishra, Maken had, on Sunday, demanded Kejriwal's resignation, stating that AAP had "lost its anti-corruption plank".
