Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has asked the state government as well as all the civic bodies to rope in residents and resident welfare associations (RWAs) for beautification and upkeep of the parks, roads and neighbourhood localities.

"The development and beautification of such parks will provide better recreational and health opportunities for the benefit of the residents," said the Lieutenant Governor during his visit to the Andrews Ganj flyover.

The space below the flyover which was used as a garbage dump, took only eight days for the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) to transform it into a well-lit space with sculptures that showcase various yoga positions.

Inspired by the park constructed under the Matunga flyover in Mumbai, the Yoga Mudra sthal as SDMC calls it, is a unique attempt to showcase our cultural heritage through the spaces below flyovers.

Baijal also visited the Rock Garden Park at Munirka Village. He also appealed to the residents that apart from the government, the involvement of RWAs/locals is necessary for cleanliness and infrastructural development.

"Groups of active residents can come forward and play a vital role. Community participation and ownership shall automatically ensure robust feedback of performance of concerned officials too," he said. The civic body also informed Lieutenant Governor that they have set an ambitious target to develop 100 parks in south Delhi at Gram Sabha Land within one year.
