The Lt Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal on Wednesday approved the long pending redrawing of zonal boundaries under the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), with the city getting a new Keshavpuram Zone and the City and Sadar-Paharganj zones of the civic body have been merged into a single entity.

"Approved creation of new Keshavpuram Zone and merging of City & Sadar-Paharganj zones in North MCD. Restructuring should enhance efficiency," Baijal tweeted.

The decision came two days after the NDMC Mayor Preety Agarwal threatened that BJP councillors of the civic body will gherao the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence on Wednesday if the Delhi government does not notify the new zonal boundaries.

"We have cleared the file of zonal boundaries, which was sent to the L-G for his approval two days back," Delhi Urban Development Minister Satyendar Jain told reporters.

The NDMC has a total of 104 wards spread over six zones. Before the redrawing, the zones were — Rohini, Civil Lines, City, Sadar-Paharganj, Narela and Karol Bagh. So, after redrawing the total number of zones will remain the same.

According to NDMC officials, the new Keshavpuram Zone will have 18 wards, Karol Bagh 13; Narela 16; City and Sadar-Paharaganj 13; Rohini Zone 26, and 18 wards in Civil Lines Zones.
