Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal finally approved the Delhi government’s scheme ‘Quality Health for All’ for the people in the national Capital on Tuesday. The scheme has been approved without any income criteria.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took to social media to declare the development saying, “Hon’ble  Lt Gov Delhi approves‘Quality Health for all’ scheme without income criteria. Thank u so much sir.”

The scheme was passed by the Kejriwal Cabinet on December 12 and was further sent to the L-G for approval.

The quality healthcare scheme caters to permanent residents of the national Capital. The scheme provides for free-of-cost, specified, high-end diagnostic (radiological) tests and surgeries at private hospitals for patients, in case of a delay at government medical facilities. The L-G office in a statement on Tuesday said, “The approval for the scheme was given today post-facto.”

After rejecting the AAP government’s ‘Doorstep Delivery of Services’ scheme, which was approved on Monday, the L-G had also objected to the ‘Quality Health for All’ scheme asking for amendments in the same.

The L-G had on December 29 suggested the Kejriwal government to keep some “income ceiling” so that the resources of the state were used to help the poor. Baijal had also said that the income-cap will ensure that the“poor are not crowded out by the well-to-do”.

To the suggestion, the CM had responded that if the income criteria was kept, it would eventually end up “killing” the scheme.

Last week, Health Minister Satyendar Jain said that there were poor people who might fall above the ceiling limit as well and hence, no one should be restricted from availing the services in the city.
