On May 25, eight members of the family were on their way to Bulandshahar to visit a relative admitted to a hospital when they were attacked by a group of criminals. The assailants shot dead a man and raped four of the women at gunpoint on the Jewar-Bulandshahar Road off the Yamuna Expressway in Gautam Budh Nagar. They then fled with cash and valuables.
Talking to DNA about the scarring incident, a family member said: " We are not going to celebrate Eid till we get justice. Eid is a festival that means a lot to us, but this time everything is different. There is no joy in the family. We have not recovered from the life-ending incident."
Accusing the police of inaction, he further said: "The police have not been successful in getting any breakthrough in the case. It is a shame that the cops are not able to find even a single clue about the criminals. We are deeply saddened at the turn of events. We are ruined. We demand the police to arrest the criminals or we will do something to ourselves."
Earlier, the preliminary medical reports had ruled out rape in the case, angering the family to no end.
Uttar Pradesh Police Chief Sulkhan Singh then promised to arrest the victims soon, but nothing has happened yet.
In fact, the police are yet to organise an identification parade for victims to identify the accused. Meanwhile, the victim's family has alleged that the police were hushing up the matter.
They have also recorded their statements in front of the district magistrate.
