The Special Cell of Delhi Police has busted an international drug cartel and arrested two persons in possession of 4 kg heroin worth Rs 16 crore in the international market. The heroin was being smuggled from Afghanistan and Pakistan. Later, it was to be sent via courier to other countries, including England, France, Canada, and South Africa.

"The arrestees have been identified as Darbara Singh alias Billa, 48, and Ajay alias Sandeep Singh, 19, residents of village Lakh Pur in Punjab. Ajay is Billa's nephew. The duo were arrested from Najafgarh area. Billa was awarded a 32-year sentence in three different cases of drug peddling but he jumped parole in 2015 and went underground," Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said.

Billa is involved in eight criminal cases, including six cases registered under the NDPS Act. He was convicted in three NDPS cases in Punjab and was awarded a punishment for 32 years with a fine of Rs 3 lakh. His wife Sarabjeet Kaur also gained notoriety in this illegal trade and was found to be involved in at least 10 cases registered against her under the NDPS Act. Kaur is currently lodged in the Ludhiana Jail and facing trial under the NDPS Act.

Yadav further said the heroin was brought to Delhi from Afghanistan and Pakistan and was to be supplied in Delhi, UP, Punjab, Haryana, and other parts of India.

An Alto car with a Punjab registration number and three mobile phones with SIM cards, used in drug trafficking, were also recovered, the police said.

According to the officials, on May 1, they received information that Billa, notorious for receiving big consignments of heroin, would arrive in Delhi along with an associate. A team was formed and strategically placed to nab them.
