The man who raped a 24-year-old woman on the pretext of offering her a lift home from south Delhi's Hauz Khas area has been identified and will be arrested soon, police said on Monday. It was also revealed that the accused often visited the spa where the woman works.

The incident took place on Sunday when the woman, who had gone to Hauz Khas village with her friends to attend a party, left a restaurant to go home. The accused offered to drop her home."The man pretended to be taking her to his car. When they reached an isolated spot, he forced himself upon her. The woman resisted strongly and even smashed his face with a stone. Somehow, she managed to free herself and flee from the spot. She then approached a police post for help. She was immediately taken for a medical examination," a senior police officer said.

An FIR in this regard was registered at the Hauz Khas police station. By the time the police team arrived, the accused had fled from the spot. Police further said the woman works on night duty in the spa while she attends classes at an English coaching centre during the daytime.

"The accused has been identified and various teams are raiding his probable hideouts. He is possibly a resident of a nearby area," Additional DCP Chinmoy Biswal said.

Cops further said more than a dozen special teams have been constituted to nab the accused and footage from all the CCTV cameras in the area is being scanned for clues.

"We have formed 15 special teams and more than 50 suspects and people, including shopkeepers, restaurant guards, three-wheeler drivers, have been questioned for eye-witness accounts. Every possible effort to nab the accused is being made," the officer added. Meanwhile, the police are also scanning records of nearby hospitals to ascertain if any man with facial injury came in for treatment. In addition, they have arranged counselling sessions for the victim.
