GPS in robbed car of Amazon staffer lands 7 in jail

The Delhi Police on Thursday arrested seven people for robbing a car belonging to e-commerce giant Amazon's staffer, while it was on its way from Delhi to Gurugram late on Tuesday night. The incident was reported from the Ridge Road in Pancharipuri. In fact, the accused also took the car and it was the global positioning system (GPS) fitted in it that led the cops to them.

"The accused have been identified as Pawan Gupta, Kesav Kumar, Ajay Kumar, Rahul Rastogi, Mehruddin, Amar Verma, and Amit alias Mama," Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi, BK Singh said.

On the day of the incident around 11.30pm, driver Gopal Attri, who works for Amazon, was on his way to deliver goods when another vehicle hit his EcoSport car from behind. As soon as he got out of the car to check damage, one of the accused started fighting with him. Soon, others joined in and flung chilly powder in his eyes.

Then one of the accused fled with the EcoSport car while others forced Attri to come with them in their car. They later dumped him near the Raja Garden flyover in west Delhi.

Attri took help of a police patrolling party and reached the Pancharipuri police station around 2am. In was revealed during the investigation that the robbed EcoSport car had a GPS fitted in it. The cops then tracked the movement of the vehicle and traced it in Loni, Ghaziabad.

A raid was conducted on a residence near this spot and all the seven accused were nabbed. Robbed goods including a Chinese pistol with 18 cartridges, EcoSport car, and 116 other articles such as 23 mobile phones, mobile accessories, electronic items, clothes, and shoes were recovered from their possession.

The police said Pawan was the kingpin of the gang and had earlier committed a robbery in the Madir Marg area. He would recce the areas from where delivery goods were taken. He had worked at a mobile shop in Karol Bagh and was well aware of their warehouses and how the online companies procure goods to deliver them.
