Four arrested for killing senior citizen last December

The accused had bludgeoned the elderly man to death after he had raised an objection to them creating a ruckus after drinking in public.

Police arrested the elder brother of gangster Sandeep Kana and his three associates, including an automobile engineer, on Tuesday, for killing a senior citizen in December last year.

The accused had bludgeoned the elderly man to death after he had raised an objection to them creating a ruckus after drinking in public. The incident had also led to mass outrage, in which three vehicles were gutted following strong protests.

The two main accused were identified as Kana's elder brother Satish alias Deepak Pandit (34), a property dealer by profession and Sandeep Sehrawat alias Kotilya (34), a diploma holder in automobile engineering from Pusa. Their two other aides were identified as Sanjeev alias Neeru (34) and Sonu alias Chiranji Lal (22).

Senior officers from the Delhi Police's crime branch said that on the day of the incident, that is Deccember 27, Sehrawat and Pandit were released on bail from Tihar Jail in a case registered against them under the Arms Act. 

"The other two accused had also accompanied the duo from Tihar Jail to their office in Harphool Vihar, Baprola, where a celebration was organised and all of them started consuming alcohol. After the party, the accused persons turned aggressive and started misbehaving with locals and thrashed them with baseball bats and sticks in an inebriated state. Chandresh Ram, an aged person, died in the incident and several others sustained injuries," said Bhisham Singh, DCP, crime.

In the aftermath of the incident, locals protested outside the office of the accused and set two cars and a two-wheeler afire. The office was also burnt. "A case of murder was registered and during the investigation, two men Jaswant alias Pappu and Manjeet Dabas were arrested, while four others remained absconding. Following regular surveillance, on March 28, a crime branch team laid a trap at an identified location following a tip-off and arrested the four main suspects," Singh said.
