DU gets 19,000 applications for 378 posts

Over 19,000 applications have been received by Delhi University (DU) for the posts of assistant professors across various departments. The applications which are for 378 posts show that on average over 50 candidates have submitted their bid for one seat. What's more every state or Union territory has a candidate who has submitted his or her bid to be Assistant Professor.

"The application screening process (for the post of Assistant Professor) has already started and the University will soon call applicants for Interview rounds," says a DU official.

Statistics show that out of the 19,065 applications, the male to female ratio is quite close — male applicants being 9,779, females 9,284. The maximum, number of applications, 1768, were received for FMS, Faculty of Management Studies, while only 23 and 55 were received for Punjabi and Persian languages respectively. The second highest number of applications, 1,689, were for Chemistry followed by 1,576 for Physics and Astrophysics.

Looking at the various states it was found that as many as 5,424 people want to come to Delhi from Uttar Pradesh while only 1 was received from both Goa and Andaman and Nicobar. Out of the total number of applications received, 369 are from the PWD category, 708 from ST category, 3,100 from SC category and 3,757 from the OBC category.

Meanwhile, applications for the appointment of principals in various colleges have started, and in 14 out of the 26 colleges — where principals need to be appointed — have given advertisements. Government bodies at these colleges have been asked to start the process at the earliest.

DU is also receiving applications vacant positions for Associate Professor, 399, and Professor, 152, respectively. The last date for submitting applications is May 15, 2017.
