The 'disgruntled' BJP councillors might form their own party after being denied tickets for the upcoming municipal elections in the national capital. Sources said they have even decided upon a tentative name, 'Delhi Janta Party', but the final decision is yet to be taken.

The councillors on Wednesday made yet another attempt to convince the central leadership to reconsider its decision. They met the Union Transport Minister and former BJP President Nitin Gadkari, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Lok Sabha member Ramesh Bidhuri, and Delhi BJP Chief Manoj Tiwari to convey their sentiment. The leaders assured the councillors that their sentiments will be conveyed to the central leadership.

Not convinced with the assurances, the councillors are contemplating forming a new outfit. "One of the councillors suggested that we should register our party as 'Delhi Janta Party'. More suggestions have been invited and a decision will be taken after considering the response from the central leadership," a councillor said.

These disgruntled councillors had even approached the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Convenor and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal but could not get any help. In the 272 wards of the three municipal bodies, BJP has 153 councillors.

These lawmakers held a three-hour closed door meeting in the Civic Centre, headquarter of north and south municipal bodies, on Tuesday to chalk out their future course of strategy.

Sources said all three mayors, Shyam Sharma, Dr Sanjiv Nayyar and Satya Sharma, leader of in north and east corporations Vijay Prakash Pandey and Sanjay Jain, and Standing Committee Chairmen Shailnder Singh Monti, Pravesh Wahi, and Jitender Chaudhary were the most vocal. While the BJP is yet to come out with its list of candidates, AAP has already declared 162 of its 172 candidates with the Congress to finalise its first list in the next two days.
