The Capital on Monday woke up to a cold morning, an overcast sky with thick clouds. While rain eluded the city, contrary to the forecast of light drizzle, the weather remained cold as gusty winds blew through the day.

The weather took a cold turn because of active western disturbance originating over the central part of Afghanistan region, that also brought snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. The cover of clouds brought down maximum temperature to 21.2 degrees Celsius, two notches below season's average. The minimum temperature was recorded at 13 degrees Celsius, three degrees more than season's normal.

The meteorological department has predicted light rains or thunderstorm in the next two days. The sky will remain covered in clouds for the remaining part of the week. Mercury will also oscillate during the coming days.
While the maximum temperature is expected to rise to 24 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, minimum temperature will drop to 11 degrees Celsius. It is expected to settle at eight degrees Celsius on Wednesday while the maximum temperature will also come down by one degree to 23 degrees Celsius.

Residents, meanwhile, took out their woollens on Monday to battle the sudden nip in the air. "After sunny days for the past so many days, I again felt the cold returning. Just when I thought of packing my sweaters and jackets, it became cold again. Though I am happy with the change because the weather had become unusually warm for February," said Saniya Ghai, a resident of Mayur Vihar, Phase-I.
