Delhi woman stabbed to death: Family yet to receive compensation promised by Kejriwal

Parents of 19-year-old girl Meenakshi, who was brutally stabbed to death in Delhi last month, have still not received the compensation promised to them by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, reports Prabhat Khabar​. 

On July 16, Meenakshi was stabbed to death allegedly by two brothers after she protested their verbally abusing her. Following the incident, Kejriwal had ordered a magisterial probe into the case. He had also announced a compensation of Rs.5 lakh for the family.

Meenakshi's parents reached the Delhi assembly on Monday during a one day special session to discuss women's security. Usha and Raj Kumar complained that they were yet to receive the compensation of Rs.5 lakh promised by the AAP government.

"Nobody visited us after the chief minister made the promise," said Usha, the mother of Meenakshi. According to another report, Meenakshi's parents Usha and Raj Kumar also complained that they were not allowed to enter the assembly premises at first. However, later, they were allowed to sit in the visitors' gallery to watch the proceedings of the house.

During a conversation with the press, Usha said, "I don't know what is happening here. We have come here because we were told that our complaint would be resolved here." 

While announcing compensation for the family, in a radio advertisement Kejriwal had cited this case and asked for control over Delhi Police, creating more tension between the elected government of Delhi and the Centre-run Delhi Police.
