The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has arrested two persons for allegedly running an inter-state drug racket. Narcotics including 1 kg heroin worth Rs 4 crore in international markets was seized from their possession in northwest Delhi's Rohini.

The accused were identified as Manohar Singh (31) and Fakruddin Rangrej (61), both residents of district Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh, the police said. Two kg alprazolam, worth about Rs 1.6 crore, was also recovered from them.

The police received a tip-off on March 15 about the accused arriving in the city to supply a big consignment of heroin and alprazolam to some drug dealers based in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, a senior police officer said. A trap was laid and they were arrested.

During interrogation, Manohar revealed that he dropped out of his B.Com course in the second year and started working as a helper in a private hospital near his village. Thereafter, he started working as a quack doctor in his village taking advantage of villagers' illiteracy. About five years ago, he came in contact with some drug suppliers and involved in the trade to earn some quick money.

Rangrej revealed he was going through a financial crisis as his cloth business wasn't doing too good. That's how he got involved in the drug trade for easy money, police said. His interrogation revealed that he studied up to Class 5 and worked as a labourer in his village before starting a small-scale cloth business in weekly markets and local markets. He used to purchase ready-made cloth from Panipat, Haryana, and Indore in Madhya Pradesh and supply these to shops in the nearby markets.
