Delhi cops bust Mewati gang of auto lifters, arrest 3

Delhi Police have busted a gang of three auto lifters which used to steal two wheelers on demand from Delhi NCR area and later sell them in the rural areas of Gajrola and Amroha in UP at cheap rates. Over two dozen two wheelers were recovered from the gang. In another case, a mechanic turned auto lifter was arrested and four stolen vehicles were recovered from him.

According to the police, the gang was busted by police from Amar Colony area. The gang members have been identified as Vishal (19), Bablu (32) from Delhi and their aide Ashish Kumar (28) from Amroha in UP.

DCP southeast, Chinmoy Biswal said that keeping in mind the frequent incidents of vehicle thefts in the area, surveillance was stepped up, during which information was received about the movements of a notorious auto lifter Vishal in Sriniwaspuri area.

"The information was further developed and following a tip off, a picket was raised near Cambridge School and one suspect riding a scooter with registration number DL 3SDL 5237 was arrested. On verification it was found that the scooter was stolen from the Kalkaji area. During interrogation Vishal disclosed details of his associates Bablu and the receiver Ashish. They disclosed that they had parked many stolen bikes in a parking area near Gagan Cinema in Nand Nagri and in adjoining areas of Harsh Vihar to dispose them off. All three of them were arrested and 28 vehicles were recovered, including four from Amroha in UP," he said.

Biswal said that the accused used to steal vehicles on demand from the receiver and accordingly targeted motorcycles and scooters parked in isolated and dark spots.

In another case, a mechanic turned auto lifter Dharmender (31), a resident of Madanpur Khadar was arrested from Nehru Place. Four stolen scooters have been recovered from his possession. "The accused used to work as a computer hardware professional in Nehru Place and from past few months he was unemployed," the DCP said.

According to the police, the gang was busted by police from Amar Colony area.
