A poor father, working hard and daring to dream of a better life for his daughter when she grows up, is wrapped in grief as the apple of his eye is no more.

Seven-year-old Garima Kumar's life was abruptly cut short when the overcrowded private school cab rammed into a tanker as the driver of the cab was plying on the wrong side of the road with earphones on.

"Garima left the house around 6:30 am. We came to know about the accident through locals. We rushed to the spot and found that the children had been taken to a hospital nearby. I even spoke to the driver, who also had no clue about my daughter. We also went to the school but authorities there were clueless and stated that she hadn't come to school today," said the child's father Sandeep Kumar, who works in a private company.

The father then went to the nearby hospitals where other children, injured in the accident were getting treatment, but Garima could not be found anywhere.

"Finally, the police informed us that she is admitted to MGS Hospital in Punjabi Bagh where we rushed and found her lying unconscious, surrounded with machines and an oxygen mask on her face. She died within an hour of us reaching the hospital," Kumar said.

Garima was the first child of the family and was a premature baby. "We had to go through a lot for her. She was most attached to me. She always told me that she wants to become either a doctor or a teacher. So I was working hard to fulfil her dream and provide her with everything possible from my end," Kumar said.

The family also alleged that the school bus doesn't come to their area where they reside, JJ colony of Wazirpur, so they had to hire a private van to drop and pick her from school.

" It was after the accident, we came to know that the driver carries around 18 children in the van which has a capacity of only eight. The government should keep a check on these things. I have lost my daughter, I do not want anyone to face the same fate," Kumar said.

The family has demanded strict action against the driver.
