Cops find twin baby girls dead in park

The bodies of twin infant girls were found in a park in Keshav Puram, in the northwestern part of the city, on Friday. The bodies were spotted by a passerby late in the evening who then informed the police.

According to a police officer, they received a call late in the evening from someone who is said to have seen two infants lying motionless in a DDA park in Rampura. The police reached the spot and took the girls — who were reportedly around five to six months old — to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital where they were declared brought dead on arrival.

"We have kept the bodies in the mortuary just in case someone comes looking for them. They will be kept preserved for two days and after that a post-mortem will be conducted," a doctor at the hospital said.

DCP, southeast, Romil Baaniya said, "Unfortunately, the newborn could not survive. We will forward all relevant documents and Rohit's complaint to the Medical Council of India for a fact-finding inquiry to ascertain whether there was any medical negligence. Legal action will be initiated on the basis of this inquiry."

The police suspect that the girls were first murdered and then their bodies dumped in the park. "There is a possibility of the girls have been killed by either their parents or any family member. It seems to be a case of infanticide," said a senior police officer.

The police are also checking the records of the nearest hospitals and nursing homes in order to find out about the parents as well as the deceased. "Lack of CCTV footage has made matters difficult for us to crack the case as no CCTVs were installed in the surrounding area," said the investigating officer.

A case has been registered under section 318 (concealment of birth by secret disposal of dead body) and the search is on for the parents or guardians of the victims.
