A collection agent accompanied by a gunman was shot at and robbed of Rs 11 lakh in Rohini's Vijay Vihar area late on Saturday in full public view. Cops also arrived on the spot, which is hardly half a kilometre away from the Vijay Vihar police station. In another incident, an auto-rickshaw driver was killed with his throat slit on Sunday in Kalyanpuri area.

The first incident took place when the collection agent identified as Dinesh Kumar, had reached near a school in Vijay Vihar, in a Maruti Eeco van with driver and a gunman. According to the witnesses, two men on a bike approached Kumar's vehicle and asked the three of them to get off.

"The duo asked Kumar for the cash bag, to which he resisted and asked his driver to drive away. Threatening the driver of dire consequences, one of the two accused who had a pistol, shot at Kumar, asking the gunman to not move. Seeing the trio terrified, the duo snatched the cash bag from Kumar and fled from the spot," said a senior police officer.

Locals then gathered and called the Police Control Room. Kumar was rushed to Baba Ambedkar hospital where his condition was stated to be critical till Sunday evening. Police said they have registered a case of attempt to murder and robbery under relevant sections. "CCTV footages from the area are being checked to identify the accused or trace the vehicle used by them. We are probing the matter and raids are being conducted to nab the accused," the officer said.

In another case reported from Kalyanpuri, a 54-year-old man was killed with his throat slit by some unknown person. Police suspect personal enmity behind the murder as no angle of robbery or theft has surfaced till now, officials said.

The victim was identified as Ramasre, an auto-rickshaw driver by profession, who used to live with his son, who is also an auto driver, at their rented accommodation in Kalyanpuri. It was during the early hours on Sunday when his son returned after driving his auto, he found his father lying in a pool of blood. Police have sent the body for a post-mortem examination and said that the murder is being probed to nab the accused.
