Class 10 student delivers baby in govt school toilet

A Class X student gave birth to a baby girl inside the washroom of a government school in north-west Delhi, where she had gone to take a compartment exam, two days ago. The police said an elderly neighbour, who had raped the girl, was arrested on Friday.

The girl is a student of Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in Model Town. She had come to the school to take her compartment exam. According to the police, on July 20, the school authorities informed them about the shocking incident.

The girl started having labour pains during the exam and was rushed to the washroom, where, to everybody's surprise, she delivered a baby. The school authorities then called up the police, who took both the girl and the baby to the hospital. The condition of the baby, delivered in the 26th week itself, was stated to be stable.

When questioned, the girl revealed that a 51-year-old neighbour had raped her 4-5 times. Her parents, meanwhile, claimed that they did not realise she was pregnant and thought her stomach was bloated due to gastric issues.
"A case has been registered and the accused has been arrested," Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest) Milind Mahadeo Dumbre said.

The accused, who hails from Bihar, told the police that he had given the girl pills to induce a miscarriage. He wasn't aware that the pills did not work. He further said that he used to give her money, Rs 500-800, every time he raped her, so that she wouldn't tell anyone about it.

The police said the accused lived in a rented accommodation in the Model Town area. They are trying to ascertain whether he was involved in any more such cases.
