A day after DNA reported about intelligence agencies alerting the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) about possible terror attacks on the Delhi Metro, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawans caught a woman trying to sneak into the Delhi Metro with a pistol at Chandni Chowk station on the eve of Republic Day.
The incident took place around 2 pm on Wednesday when the woman arrived at the station, along with her accomplice, and headed for security checking. According to the officers, the woman was carrying a music system, which she was asked to put on the output roller for X-Ray screening.
"A CISF officer detected there was something suspicious. On questioning, the woman tried to get away but was apprehended. On opening the music system, a country-made pistol was found. The officer immediately alerted the shift in-charge and the Delhi Metro Rail Police (DMRP) about the incident," said a senior officer.
Following the alert, senior CISF and Delhi police officers arrived at the station and the woman, a resident of Mukundpur in Delhi, was detained for questioning.
Sources said that primary investigations revealed that the woman had arrived at the station with her husband and another woman, who claimed to be her sister. However, the man could nowhere be spotted after she was caught.
"The woman was questioned about the music system but she failed to tell from where she had bought it. She said she bought it from a roadside vendor. She also said that she was unaware of the pistol," said a senior officer.
Questioning of the woman by the police and intelligence sleuths continued till late evening, sources said.
DNA on Monday reported that intelligence agencies had alerted CISF about a possible terror attack on Delhi Metro. Following this, the force stepped up security of the Metro significantly and reserved force, Quick Response Teams and bomb detection teams were also deployed.
