Call a ‘chotu’ to wait for you in ATM line

The recent call for demonetization has brought out the best and the  worst in people. While many have cribbed about the long hours in the  queue, there are others who are coping with the inconvenience. 

Enter Bookmychotu, is an app that allows you to hire a helper for Rs  90 an hour, who will stand in the ATM line for you till your turn  comes! 

“Primarily this app was developed since we sensed a market for  helpers who would help around the house,” says owner Satjeet Singh Bedi.  “Many of my friends who used my app would hire chotus for help with  house parties, cleaning and other miscellaneous  chores,” Bedi said. “However, since the demonetization was announced,  we started receiving calls, primarily from corporate professionals who  needed someone to wait outside the ATM in the queue for them,” Bedi  added. 

It has been almost two weeks now since the Prime Minister  demonetized Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes affecting almost 86 per cent of  the currency in the market. Despite a cap on the withdrawal, banks have  long run out of money mostly before midday. 

According to Bedi, in the past fortnight, almost  60-70 per cent of the bookings have been made. However, Twitterati have called out on the term chotu as many feel that the term is derogatory.
