BJP's Muslim candidates lose in election

Out of the five seats, three went to the Congress and two to AAP

There was slight gloom among the cheers in the BJP's sweeping victory in the MCD polls. Despite victory in 181 wards, the party's five Muslim candidates all lost in the polls.

The five canddiates were Kunwar Rafi from Zakir Nagar, Sabra Malik from Mustafabad, Rubeena from Quresh Nagar, Sartaj Ahmed from Chauhan Banger and Faimuddin Saifi from Delhi Gate were fielded by the party for the polls.

Out of the five seats, three went to the Congress and two to AAP. Though the Grand Old Party failed to impress the people of Delhi it managed to keep its voteshare among the muslim dominated constituencies.

"We were hoping to win in these areas. It is quite disappointing that we did not even win a single seat here," said a senior BJP leader.

Faimuddin Saifi lost to Congress's Aaley Mohammed Iqbal, who will be serving his second term this year. He won by a margin of 10,844 votes. Rubeena Baigam from Quresh Nagar lost by 2,579 votes to AAP's Shaheen.
