AMU professor, in running for VC, denies corruption charges

Reacting to the claims made against him in the letter written to the President of India by lawyer and activist Prashant Bhushan, Professor Tariq Mansoor, who is one of the three names finalised by Aligarh Muslim University for the position of its new Vice Chancellor, has claimed that he is not involved in any corruption charges.

According to Prof Mansoor, the charges of misutilisation of allocated budget of Rs 2.19 crore for Trauma Centre in the JN Medical College Hospital against him were dropped by the Office of Principal Director of Audit (Central), Lucknow. A letter from the office of Principal Director in this regard was sent to JN Medical College in September last year.

In his letter to the President, Bhushan had mentioned that Prof Mansoor was involved in misutilisation of funds and hence a decision on the choice of the new VC should be taken diligently. The professor, however, has refuted all such charges against him.
