Luxurious cars, big bucks to facilitate visits to high-end hotels, and charm —  Hameedullah used everything at his disposal to trap women, whom he later sexually exploited and duped. If his targets threatened to expose him, he would blackmail them by saying that he would tell the authorities that they had terror links in Afghanistan.

The Delhi Police Crime Branch has finally arrested the 34-year-old, Afghan by origin, after receiving a complaint from a United States (US) national. The woman has alleged that the man sexually exploited her and duped her of $86,000 (Rs 57.8 lakh) after befriending her on social media.

“The complainant said the accused befriended her on Facebook after posing as MK Fahim. He claimed to have fallen in love with her and promised to marry her. The accused even prepared fake marriage documents, mentioning the complainant as his lawful wife,” said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime.

Yadav said Hameedullah then made the complainant transfer $86,000 to an account in Afghanistan, which he later received in India through alternative channels.

“The complainant said she grew suspicious and did some research, during which she came across his name mentioned as a scamster on a website, whoscammedyou.com. When she confronted him with the facts, he threatened her and said he would inform the FBI that she transferred the money to an account in Afghanistan for some terrorists in Kabul. He also told her that he had clicked her obscene pictures and videos, which he would float on social sites,” the officer said.

After due technical surveillance, a police team led by DCP G Ram Gopal Naik apprehended Hameedullah near a 5-star hotel in RK Puram. They also recovered an Audi A3 sedan car, two high-end mobile phones, a laptop, and documents of property purchased by the accused.

Police said Hameedullah, who was born in Kabul, holds an Afghan passport. He arrived in India in July 2011 on a tourist visa, which was later converted to medical visa. “He is suspected to be involved in more such cases. His links to terror outfits cannot be ruled out at this stage. Further investigation is on,” an officer said.
