Rahul was beaten to death at platform no. 1 of the Adarsh Nagar railway station on Thursday evening. A tea stall owner at the platform did not turn up for work that day. The station master left at 4 pm, half an hour before the incident. And a Government Railway Police (GRP) constable, deployed on the spot, said the lynching took place out of his sight.

It seems, no one witnessed the brutal death of the 22-year-old at the hands of a mob at a crowded railway station. To make matters worse, the station does not have any CCTV cameras.

"I was not here yesterday. Someone else was taking care of my shop and I had taken the day off. I came to know of the incident later on," the tea stall owner said, requesting anonymity.

The station master, whom the DNA team contacted on Friday afternoon, said his working hours get over at 4 pm. "The incident took place around 4.15 pm. I had left the premises. I did not even know about it till I returned to work on Friday morning," he said.

A GRP constable admitted that he heard the commotion but insisted that he was on the other side of the station and could not see anything. "The incident took place out of my sight. Later, three men were arrested. The police acted instantly," he said.

Two weeks ago, an exclusive DNA report stated that only 11 out of 232 railway stations in the Delhi Division have CCTV cameras. Senior police officers probing the matter said the absence of cameras will be a huge obstacle in identifying the accused.

"The railway station does not have CCTV cameras. In fact, the platform has open access as there are no security measures, such as fence or barbed wires, to keep the miscreants out. We are probing the matter," a senior RPF officer said.

Meanwhile, the cops said that no one from the general public has come forward as a witness to the incident. "One of our policemen, who was present at the spot and chased the assailants, is the only witness on record," a senior officer said.
