5-year-old helped cops nab Narela rapist-killer

The juvenile who raped and murdered a six-year-old child at a construction site in Narela on Thursday was nabbed after a friend of the victim, all of five years of age, raised an alarm. The accused had paid the boy Rs 5 to keep quiet while he took the girl to an under-construction toilet nearby and raped her. The child had come out of her shanty to relieve herself at an isolated spot.

The friend of the victim had been warned by the accused not to come near the toilet. But then he heard a loud sound and went in to inquire. There, he saw the juvenile strangling the girl. He immediately alerted a security guard deployed at the construction site, who spotted the accused with the girl's body.

Probe further revealed that the accused followed her and offered her Rs 10 to come with him to the toilet. "The incident took place when the girl's parents had left for work. After raping her, the accused strangled the child with his t-shirt and then bludgeoned her face and head with a heavy stone. After hearing her scream, alerted the people in the vicinity. They rushed to the spot and the juvenile accused was nabbed," a senior police officer said.

Police were then alerted and the girl's body was sent for post-mortem, which later confirmed rape. Meanwhile, the family of the victim and other labourers staged a protest against the construction company on Friday, demanding better sanitation facilities at the camp.
