The Gurugram Police have arrested three persons in connection with the brutal rape and murder of a 10-year-old child last month.

The accused were identified as Mukhtar Ali, 30, Aizad Malik, 26, and Zalil Ahmed, 22. They all lived near the home of the victim in the Wazirabad slum. Two of them work as drivers and the third one is a rag-picker.

The child went missing on January 16. She was last seen playing near her home. Her body was found a week later in a vacant plot in the Saraswati Kunj area, Sector 53.

The post-mortem confirmed that she was tortured and brutally raped before being murdered as there were several bruises on her body and burn marks on her skull and face. Police said the accused had tried to burn her face to prevent identification.

After the arrest, the accused told the police that rag-picker Ali was acquainted with the girl’s family. He lured her with some money and then kidnapped her in a black Skoda car. They took her to the slums of Sector 43, where they held her captive and raped her for four days.

DCP (E) Deepak Saharan told DNA: “Scared of getting identified, they then strangled the child and burnt her face.”

During the investigation, the police got their first clue when one of the neighbours said he saw the girl getting into a black vehicle. Based on that, the cops zeroed in on driver Malik, who lived in the same slum and drove a black Skoda Rapid. He was arrested on Saturday.

He then told the interrogators that two of his friends were also involved in the crime. All three accused are natives of Murshidabad in West Bengal and two of them are married. They have been taken into police remand for further interrogation.

The child’s parents are rag-pickers and have been living in Gurugram for the last five years.
