On a scale of 1-10, where do you rate NDRF's preparedness to tackle a chemical attack or a severe radioactive leakage?

I would rate our preparedness a 10. We have our teams at standby and are always ready to be rushed to handle any calamity or accidental situation.

What necessary precautions should the general public take in any such situation?

Do not panic. That's the first and most important precaution. One must pay heed to professionals and not run away, as they might become a carrier of radioactive poison.

How does NDRF keep its men ready 24x7? How is this round-the-clock alertness maintained?

We have 12 battalions spread all across the country. Apart from that, 23 regional centers are there. Regular drills and surprise checks are performed to measure alertness.

Are certain measures taken to keep a check on the radioactive sensitivity or any chemical exposure around the Capital?

Our work is to perform rescue and evacuations. We do not keep any checks. Whenever our deployment is asked for, we rush to the spot to assist the state authorities. We are the third-level disaster responders but have been involved in even second and first level operations, which are usually to be dealt at the state and the district levels, respectively.

What advanced equipment do we have? Has the force asked for additional modern equipment to strengthen its functioning?

At present, we are very well equipped. We have equipment for different disasters, such as floods, gas leaks, radioactive leaks, and earthquakes. There are different SOPs for every situation.
