Here's what happened when the Prince of Calcutta and the Nawab of Najafgarh came face-to-face at the Eden Gardens!
Virender Sehwag and Sourav Ganguly were embroiled in a bit of a controversy recently after the former stated that he missed out on the Indian cricket team head coach job because of lack of 'setting'.
Ganguly, a member of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) that selected Ravi Shastri for the top job, was understandably peeved with Sehwag's remarks and was said to have termed them 'foolish'. Dada, though, was quick to rubbish any claims of having said that. "My quote on Sehwag completely false ..right quote ..Sehwag very dear to me .will speak to him soon," he wrote on Twitter.
Viru, too, went on to clarify that his 'setting' comment was light-hearted and was meant to be taken as a joke.
This isn't the first time the duo have been involved in such banter, During the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 earlier this year, Ganguly and Sehwag had a rather interesting conversation while live on commentary. The Prince of Calcutta wasn't pleased after the Nawab of Najafgarh suggested that the former wasn't a great runner between the wickets. "You should check your statistics and stop talking ill about others. You still have to give an interview in front of me (referring to the India coach job)," Ganguly had retorted. Although this chat was in good humour, it was enough to set tongues wagging.
When team India took on Australia in the second ODI of the on-going five-match series on Thursday, all eyes were on these two legends of Indian cricket as they came face-to-face.
The Eden Gardens in Kolkata is Ganguly's second home, and Sehwag did well to toe the line in Dada's den. In a behind the scenes video from inside the commentary box, Ganguly and Sehwag could be seen sharing great camaraderie. But a few subtle digs were shared too.
"My dear friend... who accuses us," said Dada with a smile on his face as he wrapped his arm around Viru. Not to be left behind, Sehwag slipped in a taunt of his own. "I'm going to ask Dada the question. He didn't give me setting only," he said as the duo burst into laughter.
