Rajasthan Royals have rejected the reports that they’re changing their name and base.
Talking to DNA a source who is privy to entire restructuring and planning of getting RR back into IPL, said, “The media has misconstrued everything. Do you think we would want to change our identity and brand name which we have built over the last few years?”
It was reported earleir that the Rajasthan Royals have asked for new team name and are contemplating shifting of base from Jaipur.
The source ruled out moving away from the home ground and added that they want to make a new beginning in the IPL from Sawai Man Singh (SMS) stadium in Jaipur.
He further added that they will keep the name intact and pointed out that the franchise has asked to change their company holding name which is Jaipur IPL Cricket Pvt Ltd to Royal Sports, primarily as they wish to get involved in other sports as well to develop and nurture more talent. “So, there is no name change happening, it’s a request to change holding company name,” another source said.
They will soon make an official announcement regarding the same. The news making rounds quoted a BCCI official as saying that Rajasthan Royals have made a request for change in name and they are expecting them to ask for shift in base as well. They conjectured that the request to shift is because the team wants to come out of its past associated with spot-fixing and BCCI’s ban on Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA).
Moreover, Rajasthan Royals have made a comeback to IPL after serving a suspension of two years from the premier t20 tournament. During this period, they kept themselves active on social networking sites, engaging fans in various contents.
