In IPL universe, anything can happen. The unpredictability of the IPL auction makes it much interesting for the fans and critics alike. Ish Sodhi, got the rough end of the stick during IPL auction on Saturday in  Bengaluru.

Kiwi spinner Ish Sodhi, who is currently world's number 1 T20 bowler according to ICC rankings failed to get any bidder. Sodhi has troubled Indian batters too in the past, but that wasn't enough for any IPL franchise to make a bid for him. In 20 T20 internationals, Indian-origin Sodhi has taken 29 wickets at an impressive economy of 6.92.

However all is not lost for him. The unsold players wil again come back to auction tomorrow. So there is every chance that a franchise with depleted bowling attack may pick him.

Couple of players who are being talked about during Big Bash League (BBL) have got big money during the auction.

D'arcy Short who has just broken the BBL record for most number of runs scored in a single edition, was snapped for impressive Rs 4 crores. His impressive performance for Hobert Hurricanes made him one of the top draws in IPL. SRH and CSK started the bidding and soon DD chipped in. Soon it was a fierce war between Rajasthan and Delhi, and finally RR prevailed.

Ponting was mighty impressed by D'arcy's 500 plus runs in 10 innings. But finally the price was too much for Ponting and RR managed to get him. Apart from being an explosive batter, D'arcy is also a handy bowler.

Another big catch for RR was Jofra Archer. However, he didn't come cheap. RR had to cough up Rs 7.2 crore to get the prized player, who has set BBL to fire with his stellar performance. Hailing from West Indies, Archer plays for Sussex and has been successful in T20 leagues across the world. In the auction, CSK and DD started the bid and later SRH and KXIP joined the war. RR came pretty late to the party bidding Rs 5.6 crore for Short. SRH with Tom Moody in the mix was pretty interested in getting him on board and tried to compete with RR in the bidding game.

But it looked like RR had made their mind to get Archer and finally paid Rs 7.2 crore for him. These kind of gambles haven't really worked in the past sometimes. Tyron Henderson comes to mind. We will soon know if Short and Archer can live up to their billings. Interestingly they played for same squad in BBL and have ended up in the same squad in IPL.
