Cricket betting racket busted in Mathura, 5 arrested

Five persons have been arrested on charges of betting and gambling from the old Tehsil Chhata area in Mathura, the police said on Thursday.

The gang operated a cricket betting racket from a house in the area. They were arrested when they were handling bets for a cricket match last evening, they said.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Aditya Kumar Shukla said that Rs 1.25 lakh, a country-made pistol and five mobile phones were also seized.

The gang's kingpin, Titu, has also been arrested. They are residents of Chhata town, he said.
